Exhibitions & Artists at Framewerks

Stephen Taylor

Stephen Taylor studied Fine Art at Leeds University with T.J. Clark and was taught painting by Paul Gopal Choudhury; after which he worked on perception and technique in John Constable as a post graduate at Essex University and visiting student at Yale. He became interested in cognitive studies at this time.

Over the 80’s, after a successful residency at Felsted School in Essex, Stephen turned from art history to painting. He supported himself and developed his skill by working to commission with a wide range of clients and subjects. He also lectured part time in art history and theory, becoming for a while head of painting at The Open College of The Arts, founded by Michael Young.

In addition to many group exhibitions Stephen held early one man shows at Essex University in 1986 and The Oakwood Gallery at Maldon in 1988.

Between 2000 and 2007, with the exception of a break to paint an altarpiece, The Hospitality of Abraham, for The Church of The Most Holy Trinity, Reading, he worked exclusively on observed contemporary landscape, largely in a single field in North Essex.

He is currently working on paintings about seeing water, and developing a method of colour-texture analysis as a tool for helping to see and paint nature afresh. He's also interested in the relationship between nature writing and 'new nature painting'.

Framewerks currently has a number of limited edition prints of Stephen’s Oak Tree series.

Maxine Creed

After becoming fascinated by the story of a house trained hare Maxine, set about capturing him in his new found environment. The series of painting developed over this period are delightful. Maxine is often to be found outdoors researching a number of animals in preparation for her next series of paintings.

Framewerks exhibits a number of Maxine’s original pieces and is also pleased to be able to offer a number of limited edition prints.

Matt Mackman

Born in Cornwall in 1972, Matt Mackman is an artist living and working in Essex. After studying at North Essex School of Art he went on to complete his training at Staffordshire University in 1996, specialising in Fine Art Painting and Photography.

Since graduating Matt has taught at various levels including foundation and degree, worked in the film industry and undertaken commissions both private and for the corporate sector. He works from his studio in Earls Colne and exhibits regularly in group and solo shows

Matt works predominantly as a painter although he often uses the camera as a starting point and in turn photographs as part of the sketching process. He is as comfortable producing work that is 6 inches square as he is 6 feet square and takes a mixed media approach to the creative process employing paint, paper and powders to create a rich textured finish.

Framewerks is pleased to offer a range of Matt’s original pieces.

Dylan Izaac

Dylan was born in 1971 and he lives and works in Stratford-on-Avon, England. He is a self-taught artist and this has enabled him to develop his own, unique style.

He started his career by working as a street artist. This took him around the world following the summer season. He would draw detailed pen and ink pictures of famous buildings and peoples portraits.

Dylan’s art is now sold and collected across the world. Whilst he is still in the early stages of his career his pictures are continuing to grow more and more popular.

Framewerks stock a range of Dylan’s limited edition prints.

Tom Lewis

Tom Lewis was born in Birmingham in 1979. Leaving his A-Levels to fend for themselves, he left school to study art at college and went on to a Fine Art degree at Middlesex University. Whilst at University Tom had a very strange experience on a train, which sparked the series of events that leads us here. The story is too long to be told now although, briefly, it led to the creation of a mythological 18th century French philosopher, the forging of a sword and the images that you see today.

His work can be described as an attempt to order that which he cannot, to create meaning where there is none and provide narrative to an otherwise story-less situation. Alternatively, for the moment, he likes the phrase ‘beautiful nonsense’.

Framewerks stock a range of Tom’s limited edition prints.

Tessa Shedley Jordan

Having trained at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts (1965 – 1970) under the aegis of such teachers as Euan Uglow and John Lawrence she went on to have a successful career as an illustrator.

Returning to the pure medium of watercolour, her paintings express her love of the shape, form, texture and colour of the fruits, vegetables and flowers that make up the subject matter of her art. She regularly exhibits locally and in London.
